Not a ‘lifestyle’

To the editor:

Thank you for publishing the story headlined “gay? fine by me” in the March 29 edition.

However, I am troubled about a quote — “ There is nothing wrong with promoting conversations about alternative lifestyles in public places” — attributed to Shenna Bellows, executive director of the American Civil Liberties Union of Maine.

Being gay — or black or Indian — or whatever is not a lifestyle! It is genetically predetermined.

And thank you, too, to the Brunswick High School students for their leadership.

Maria Holt,
