Flames erupt in Route 1 carwash
WISCASSET — The interior of a Route 1 carwash was destroyed Wednesday morning when a car inside caught fire.
Wiscasset EMS Director Roland Abbott said no one was hurt in the blaze, which was reported at 8:08 a.m. Abbott said considerable flames could be seen coming from the building when fire crews arrived and that the occupants of the car inside escaped unscathed.
The building that houses the carwash, which is next to a building that contains a McDonald’s restaurant, a convenience store and a bank, was still standing after firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze in less than 30 minutes. At noontime the charred remains of the car were still inside the carwash.
Abbott said crews from Wiscasset, Alna and Edgecomb responded to the call and the cause of the fire was still being investigated.
