James “Bud” York

PHIPPSBURG — James “Bud” York, 84, of Clifford Road, Phippsburg, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Saturday, March 31, 2012.

He was born in West Point, Maine, on September 24, 1927 the son of James and Etta (Wallace) York and grew up in Phippsburg and attended Phippsburg Schools. James joined the United States Army during the Korean War and with pride fought for his country. In 1947 he honorably received his discharge and gained employment with Sears as an auto mechanic. James retired in 1988 as a Master Mechanic, something he was very proud of.

April 19, 1980, James married his soul mate and best friend, Marilyn ( Landry) Campbell and the couple resided in Phippsburg. They were a perfect couple, doing everything together, when you saw one the other was not far behind. They enjoyed boating; going to camp in Litchfield on the weekends, vacationing together and playing cribbage and doing crossword puzzles was something that he had a great passion for.

James was a Life Member of the Elks Club, Bath.

He was predeceased by brothers, Robert York and Sonny York and a sister Marie McKenney.

He leaves behind his loving wife of 31years, Marilyn York of Phippsburg; his children, James York Jr and his wife Melissa of Phippsburg, John York and his wife Anita of Topsham, Dorothy Chubbuck and her husband Brian of Topsham, Sandra Collins and her husband Allan of Woolwich, Richard Campbell of Phippsburg and Elaine Stone and her husband Kevin of Phippsburg; sisters, Lorna Hersom, Edna Loveitt, Carolin Cronwell, Ilene Perry; sister-in-law, Gloria Ellis; brother- in- law, Robert Landry; 6 grandchildren, Shana York, James York III, Shayne York, Preston Collins, Michelle Campbell Nathan Johnson; 3 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, April 5th from 1:00-3:00 p.m. at the David E. Desmond & Son Funeral Home, 638 High Street, Bath, with a Celebration of Life being held at 3:00pm at the funeral home officiated by Stephanie Batterman.
