Roger Elliott Woodson

BOWDOIN — Roger Elliott Woodson of Bowdoin, passed away unexpectedly on March 18, 2012.

Roger, aka R. Dodge Woodson, was born on December 8, 1955, in Louisa, VA, the only child of B. C. and Maralou Woodson. Roger leaves behind his son, Adam ( 17), daughter Afton ( 23), and grandson Giovanni Ivan ( 6 months).

He was married to the mother of his children, Kimberley for 17 years, and loved her for the remainder of his life. He is the author of over 100 published books and was the teller of bed time stories. He was a nature enthusiast, who loved to explore on his ATV and bring his son "on top of the world". He was a " take charge" man, with strong work ethic; resilient and ambitious, but still willing to cry the first time he held his grandson.

At age 18, Roger become the youngest Deputy Sheriff on the Louisa Police Department. By age 23, he was a Master Plumber and owned his first company. He also showed entrepreneurship as a builder, developer, and real estate professional. Roger loved to shoot; both guns and cameras. He was known as the "Master of Moments" in his photography business, and we will cherish every moment spent with such a honorable man, father, granddaddy, and friend.

For those who never had the privilege of knowing Roger, the man who'd pull allnighters just talking with his kids, who was most at home on his land in the woods ( a mountain man at heart), the man who loved talking and laughing around the " fire pit", the man who gave all he could to everyone he knew, than you should at least know that he dedicated all of his books and all of his life to his children, and that we miss him so inexplicably much every day, because his life was: Meaningful!

We invite Roger's friends to attend a service in his memory, to be held Saturday, April 7, 2012 at 3:00 PM on his land in Bowdoin, and we encourage you to share your fond memories at this time.
