Free Christmas concert set Dec. 10

A’CHORDING TO KANTELE will perform a free Christmas concert on Dec. 10 at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church. The kantele is a traditional Finnish lap-harp with a 2,000-year history rooted in the folklore of the “Kalevala,” the national epic of Finland. Finns consider it an important symbol of their culture and it is played in their schools, universities and concert halls, according to a release from the church. Pictured in back, from left, are Lorraine Piirainen (from West Paris), Lin Gordon (Freeport), Chris Frazier (Lisbon Falls), Deborah Crump (West Paris), Barbara Honkala (Bethel) and Sally Riman (Harrison); in front, Janet Gardner (Otisfield), Martha Wilson (Lovell), Kathy Cummings (South Paris) and Irene Rochwarg (Yarmouth). For more information, call the church at 353- 8453 or visit www.StMatthewsLisbon.org. A’CHORDING TO KANTELE will perform a free Christmas concert on Dec. 10 at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church.
