“What happens when you have a child with autism is that many times you feel invisible because the rest of the world doesn’t really know what to do, or they are so scared that they’ll do the wrong thing that they don’t look at you, they don’t speak to you, they don’t smile at your child. ... We get so worried about saying the wrong thing that we do or say nothing, and that’s worse than saying the wrong thing.”
