Phyllis Tuttle Osborn
HARPSWELL — Phyllis Tuttle Osborn, age 96, died peacefully on February 10, 2012 at the home of her daughter Janet Davis in Harpswell.
Phyllis was born in Winsted, Connecticut on January 27, 1916. She graduated with honors from Gilbert High School in Winsted CT and New Britain Teachers College in New Britain CT. She studied organ at the University of Vermont. Phyllis taught at Green Woods School in Winsted CT and was church organist at the Winsted Methodist Church. In 1942 she married Clarence Osborn, also of Winsted. In 1961 Phyllis and her family moved to Southington CT where she taught second grade at William Strong School.
Phyllis’s life revolved around family, friends, and always music. She was a natural accompanist and could be found at the piano or organ at church, school performances, and family gatherings. In later years, her greatest pleasure was sitting at the piano playing familiar tunes from memory. She was a proud and resilient daughter, sister, mother and grandmother.
At the time of Clarence's death in 2002, the couple had celebrated 59 years of marriage.
She leaves three children: Janet Davis and husband Ron of Harpswell ME; Alys Hickcox and husband Mike of Forest VA; Russell Osborn, and wife Peggy of Southington CT. She leaves six grandchildren: Andrew Davis and Edward Davis of Jackson Hole, WY; Kathryn Hickcox and husband Peter Edwards of Troy NY; Jim Hickcox of Arlington VA; Kelly Osborn and husband John Ingrassia of Cheshire CT; Matthew Osborn of Bristol CT. She leaves a sister Bernice Hunt of Torrington CT and a sisterin law Elinor Clark of Winsted CT. She was pre-deceased by her husband Clarence, a daughter Helen, a sister Helen Tuttle and a brother Lloyd Tuttle.
A celebration of Phyllis’s life will be held in Connecticut at a future date.
