WORDS (and technology) FOR THIRDS

MEMBERS of Topsham Grange 37, a community partner with the Lisbon School Department, have given a dictionary to each third-grader at Lisbon Community School since 2007 through the Words for Thirds Dictionary Project. This year, the Grange added a technology grant to the dictionaries. Lisbon Community School Assistant Principal Ryan Patrie, right, accepted the grant on behalf of computer teacher Laurie Adams. Also pictured are, from left, future Grange member Richard DeVito and Grange members Joyce DeVito, Erna Smith and Mert Ricker. “We were delighted to learn of the grant to support the BrainPOP program,” Patrie said. “BrainPOP is an animated educational site for kids in science, social studies, English, math, arts, music, health, engineering and technology. The computer program is a valuable resource to integrate into the curriculum to teach and motivate students.”
