Pepper spray canister plucked from vehicle

TOPSHAM — Topsham police continue to investigate a car burglary reported Wednesday. Police believe there may be other victims who haven’t discovered items missing yet.

Lt. Christopher Lewis said that someone entered an unlocked 1998 Chevrolet Suburban parked in a driveway along White Street sometime Tuesday night. The vehicle owner called police Wednesday to report that someone removed pepper spray from the vehicle.

Police believed they had already recovered the pepper spray after responding to a littering complaint at 6:50 a.m. Wednesday on Old Farm Road. A pepper spray canister and several CDs were found scattered along the roadway, leading police to believe that more vehicles had been burglarized.

While freezing temperatures can curb this kind of criminal activity, the weather has been mild this week, and Lewis again reminds residents to lock their vehicles.
