Deer dodge causes crash

The Times Record

A West Bath woman was taken to a Brunswick hospital Tuesday after swerving to avoid a deer in the road, according to the Sagadahoc County Sheriff ’s Department.

The crash was reported at 5:34 p.m. Lt. Calvin Temple said Rachel Moroney, 54, of 19 Northwood Road, West Bath, was driving a 1999 Honda Civic east on Berrys Mill Road when a deer ran in front of her vehicle.

Moroney swerved to avoid the deer and, as a result, drove into the ditch, over a driveway, between a utility pole and guide wires, and stopped in the ditch.

Temple said Moroney complained of a head injury and was taken to Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick by Bath EMS. A hospital spokesman said Moroney was treated and released.

Also responding were Sagadahoc County Sheriff ’s Deputy Steve Thibeault and Sgt. Greg Siegel, along with the West Bath Fire Department and West Bath EMS.
