Truck clips bridge
RICHMOND — A box truck driver who failed to notice a low-clearance sign on a railroad trestle bridge on Route 24 struck the bridge Wednesday afternoon, damaging the truck but leaving the bridge unscathed.
Driver Glenn Dakin, 54, of Monmouth, told police he was distracted by his GPS as he drove northbound on Route 24 at about 2:15 p.m. and didn’t notice the low- clearance bridge, Richmond Police Officer Adam Garland said Thursday.
When the 2005 freight truck registered to Greene-based Town and Country Food struck the bridge, some of its contents spilled into the road, but police did not close the road.
Police did not cite Dakin for the incident.
