‘Four Chaplains’ to be honored at Brunswick Legion ceremony

BRUNSWICK — The George T. Files Post 20, Brunswick American Legion, 1 Columbus Drive in Brunswick is having a Four Chaplains Ceremony, which will be open to the public, on Sunday, Feb. 12 from 1:30-2:30 p.m.

Refreshments will be served following the ceremony

The ceremony will honor the heroism of four chaplains serving onboard U.S.A.T. Dorchester, which was sunk during World War II by a German torpedo Feb. 2, 1943.

According to a press release from the Brunswick American Legion George T. Files Post 20, as the ship went down their voices could be heard offering prayers. Of the 902 persons on board the Dorchester, 672 died. Of those, 44 were Mainers.
