Forum to be held on new school

Times Record Staff

The Brunswick School Board will hold a public forum on Wednesday at 4 p.m. at Coffin Elementary School to discuss plans to mothball Coffin, repair Brunswick Junior High School and build a new elementary school at the current Jordan Acres site.

The exact numbers are not in yet but the total cost could be around $27.6 million according to preliminary figures from PDT Architects.

Public input is sought so that final drawings and figures can be presented to the town council and preparations made for a November ballot question.

School Board Chair Billy Thompson said the public forum is to get feedback on the overall design of the building and for people to voice their concerns about how the school is situated on the Jordan Acres lot as well as the general design.

“From this forum a final set of renderings will be developed for the board to present to the Town Council and the town at large,” Thompson said.

Thompson said that this is only the beginning of a process that will last from now until November and community forums will be taking place all across town as the proposal is being brought before the voters.

“There will be opportunities for the public to see the plans and even tour Coffin Elementary School. Through this process the board hopes to have a building proposal that town will support,” Thompson said.
